OH&S Announces Speaker Lineup for Safety Summit in Phoenix

Occupational Health & Safety is bringing the educational information found in its magazine to the event space with the OH&S Summit in Phoenix on October 29. The brand has announced the lineup of speakers that will appear at the event including the Presidents of the Arizona Chapter of the National Safety Congress (NSC) and the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).

The OH&S Summit is a compact, one-day event for health & safety professionals to learn about industry issues. During the summit, attendees will have the opportunity to network and learn vital information from industry experts and each other on timely health & safety topics. A certificate of attendance will be presented at the end of the event.

Kicking off the event will be a keynote from MoveSMART Managing Director and frequent columnist for OH&S, Robert Pater. Pater will address how to safety professionals can leverage safety leadership to get multiple, great results at the same time, such as a more effective safety culture and reduced workplace injuries.

Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH) director Jessie Atencio will lead a session at the event titled “ADOSH’s Top Cited Standards and How to Stay Compliant.” Attendees will have a better understanding of Arizona State Plan Program and how employers and employee are encouraged to reduce hazards in the workplace through proactive measures.

Also at the event Steele Owens, Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability Engineer at Raytheon Missile Systems, will touch on fall protection, which tops OSHA’s list of most frequently cited standards. Owens will lead a session walking attendees through the Raytheon Fall Protection Training Center of Excellence, which provides a "One RTN" training in the art and science of fall protection. Employees from across RTN are trained and learn how to train, working at heights. They learn how to safely rappel from platforms and how to tie off to structures and navigate heights.

Also appearing at the event is Carly Baez, the 2019-2020 President of the Arizona Chapter of ASSP. Baez will be addressing how human factors can impact the safety of workers on the job every day and how safety leaders can look for these human factors before they end up in injury.

Rounding out the list of speakers at the event is Rick Murray, the 2019-2020 President of the Arizona Chapter of NSC. Murray, a business man turned safety professional, will give a presentation titled “Raising Eyebrows – Create a Culture of Safety through Good Business Practices.”
